I've recently replaced the original dvd drive in my dell 4600 running xp with an nec 2500a dvd-rw.
I didn't get any software with the new device.
I can see the new device in My Computer but when i try to play a dvd the drive clicks and eventually the message 'Please insert a disk in drive D:' appears.
I've also noticed that the computer takes longer to boot up than previously - the light on the front of the 2500a flashes for several seconds.
Can anyone help please.

Regards

Ken

Did you set the jumper as master or slave ?

What was the jumper set as on the drive you removed ?

Yup, sounds like the jumper settings on the drive. For best results your burner should be set to Master.

Thanks for your replies.
The jumper was set to Master, which is the same as the old drive.
So sadly the situation hasn't changed.
When I put a disk in the drive the light stays on constantly for about 45 secs while the drive, or the disk inside it, makes a regular clicking sound.
