howdy all,

It's been a long time since i have posted here. I hope this is not a repost of many times. I was wondering what the general concensus of the best dvd burner was.

thanks

Well this has been asked quite a bit but I will go ahead and answer your question. The top contenders at this point are: 1. The Pioneer 107/A07 (OEM/RETAIL) 2. The NEC 2500A. The Sony 530 will also be a great drive once they get around to releasing the firmware for it that will give it 8x DVD-R writing capabilities. The NEC will burn some 4x DVD-R discs and some 4x DVD+R discs at 6x or 8x. The new firmware for the Pioneer 107/A07 will allow you to burn pretty much any 4x DVD-R or 4x DVD+R disc at 8x.

I have only seen one review so far on the pioneer 107 it's seek times were twice as long as the plextor 708A or the sony 530. but that was a hands on review on an engineering sample so it may not reflect the final retail drive's performance.
