Mark, you can change to the female voice if that's any better. (I like her better)

Either that or take a literacy class after hours.

Click on View on the top menu, then find “Read Out Loud.” Click on “Edit” then “Preferences.” Find “Reading” in the list. You have a choice of three voices. You can customize the voices by raising or lowering the pitch as well as the number of words per minute.

Is this in Adobe Reader Lainey?

Mine doesn't have that.

Also, mine uses the Lernout and Hauspie speech software from Microsoft Reader.

Incidentally, you can adjust the voices in the Speech applet in Control Panel.

Yeah in reader under "Edit menu", preferences, reading tis there - I think the first part of Elaines post was a bit of a red herring, the View menu and edit menu are separate :)

You can also change the pitch and w.p.m in this menu.

I'm not sure what version though, but I'd say within the past six months. I don't have it installed. I'm downloading it now.

Yeah, it's in Edit, Preferences and then Reading.

I can remember though when I installed mine (Reader) that it didn't come with a speech program.

When I downloaded M$ Reader and Lernout and Hauspie speech module, Reader then used that??

Is there a seperate program you can download for Reader (Not M$)

I remember the old Adobe PDF Reader used to have it's own reader program.

After a quick look, it appears that I only have the M$ Sam voice installed.

I thought it was Michael and Michelle?

Does Adobe come with it's own speech software or does it use M$?

And who is Sam?

You have me really confused Lainey?

I'm not totally sure, but I believe that it uses the M$ Reader and Lernout and Hauspie speech module. That now it is somehow integrated. M$ Sam seems to be in between Michael and Michele. I'm really starting to wonder if that was the deal, the speech module in exchange of gettting rid of Michael and Michele in favor of M$ Sam.

I think Sam, Michelle and Mike are relatives bred into XP's module, so I think the answer to the question is no, you can't download any new voices for Adobe itself.

You can get other TTS modules (voices ...) for M$, though I think you have to pay for them usually - have a look here (http://www.katalina.com.au/vgDownload.htm).

EDIT: I guess the above also answers scooby-doo's post too, you have to have a voice module installed, read around some of the links from the page above.

So Sam is a cross-dressing hermaphrodite hired by M$ to read aloud?

I really think sexual minorities have crossed the line here!
