Madkid88 Feb 15, 2004, 12:55 PM I got msn messenger 6.1 and i cannot have audio conversations. I have my mic plugged in. It starts connecting and then stops. Can any1 help pleez? madkid88 doggy Feb 15, 2004, 03:21 PM Sorry to jump in but i have same prob using latest version of msn messenger with zone alarm installed adsl conection and windozzz 98se AMD 2600 try to connect and It starts connecting and then stops but i can use aol instant messenger ok for talking no probs but aol dont let u use a web cam might even be an idea to try trillion mate Virgin San Feb 15, 2004, 05:52 PM This may or may not be a relevant answer .... I found that last time I upgraded to "the latest version" of messenger I could no longer play any of the online games - it turned out that unless the user at the other end had upgraded also it wasn't possible to connect with them. This could be your problem. You'd think M$ would iron out these things but no. Insomniac Feb 15, 2004, 10:20 PM As far as I know, the latest versions of Messenger are optimised for audio only if users have XP. I'm only going from memory here, but I remember reading something along those lines. Stevie boy Feb 16, 2004, 06:55 AM I have ME and, Messenger 6.1 and can have audio conversations. I think it's conferences you need XP for. Steeve. EXMagus Feb 16, 2004, 07:56 PM The new windows messenger is able to use micro, web cam, etc. Maybe its just your firewall (if u have one) same happen here..!!! Got messenger blocked by 1 of my firewalls, I fixed it and then everything went smoothly... By the way I have like 3 versions of messenger installed on my computer and I can run any of them, I have XP, u should be able to do the same. Hope this helps Virgin San Feb 16, 2004, 08:03 PM Ironic, most people struggle to get rid of messenger versions and you seem to collect them :) Insomniac Feb 16, 2004, 10:12 PM I'm still under the illusion that I read somewhere that I needed XP to use audio. Maybe it has something to do with what country or ISP you use?? I'd be interested if anyone in Australia and/or using Win 98 has managed to get it working ? kashmirez Feb 16, 2004, 11:18 PM You could try yahoo. I've used both and found that audio and video works fine on yahoo(can;t get their 'super webcam' function to work even though both parties meet the minimum specs). With MSN I haven;t got the audio to work but video(still pictures cleverly blurred using patent pending technology into blurry pictures) works. Virgin San Feb 16, 2004, 11:18 PM Its not the country, I've had an audio conversation here, its XP though so dunno if its an OS issue. Insomniac Feb 16, 2004, 11:35 PM Well, it's got me. I can use video, but not audio using Win 98. All my mates with XP can use audio, but only with other XP users. None of my mates can use audio with Win 98. Steve above reackons he can use ME with audio?? Stevie boy Feb 17, 2004, 06:05 AM I don't reckon, I do it all the time. However, as I only have dial up, it's not very good. I can have audio and video, idependently or together but I can't have a conference. Insomniac Feb 17, 2004, 06:56 AM Originally posted by Stevie boy I don't reckon, I do it all the time. My god you are up yourself. All I was doing was using your experience as an example, but obviously you are too delicate and precious for that. How dare I! I remember only a few months ago when you couldn't even get a computer to boot up and now you are the saving grace for all computer users. Anyway, back to the topic if I'm allowed. From the few things I have read, this seems to be a problem more with later versions of messenger rather than earlier ones. Micro$oft's attitude is the same as it has with all it's free software. Too bad. Stevie boy Feb 17, 2004, 11:28 AM I never said I was any saving grace but, I did feel a bit patronised by your attitude i.e. "Stevie reckons". However, if you want to be personal, lately your posts have been rude, mostly off the subject and arrogant to the point where I often didn't post in order not to give you an excuse for an off the cuff remark. Subject closed, as far as I'm concerned. EXMagus Feb 17, 2004, 01:45 PM Yeah hes been kind of rude, tough, arrogant, he has offended me a couple of times, but Stevie Boy relax. 1) Im closed minded, its my only opinion that counts 2) I can only accept useful advice everything else I laugh and goes to trash In other words what people say is bs, 1 out of 3 words help. Insomniac has helped me a couple of times, insulted me too.:( So we the people here are kinda friends u know, just let it go:tup: Stryker_PornStar Feb 17, 2004, 03:10 PM I WISH MSN MESSENGER WOULD JUST DIE!!!!!! philmeehan Mar 01, 2004, 05:17 PM Originally posted by Virgin San This may or may not be a relevant answer .... This could be your problem. You'd think M$ would iron out these things but no. I agree with San. This happened to me, and I could never find out the reason, had my firewall turned off etc, but I still couldn't connect for voice chats, webcam, or file sharing across messenger. I was using Windows messenger and all my mates were using msn messenger, and for some reason, the only communication you can do across the 2 different formats is typing. Either you should upgrade to the latest version of Msn messenger, or tell whoever you want to voice chat to, to do the same. I think that will solve your problem. |
