I am thinking about buying DVD RECORDER STANDALONE. Iwas wondering if anyone who has one could give any advice on what to buy or what not to buy. I was offered one that is DVD+R and RW should I go for a DVD-R or does it not matter.

While I don't know what most people would say, I would go for the +rw. This is why; With a DVD+rw you don't have to finalize the DVD. This means you can record one sitcome, then next week you can add the next one, and effectly put several shows on one disk at different times. With -rw if you burn one show your done with that disk unless you erase it, and readd everything.

I wish, that's way to rich for my blood. Good luck with it though, it seems like it would be by far the best option.

The most popular and best seller in the world is the Panasonic E80. You can buy it at ecost.com or many other places (check out pricegrabber.com and type in "e80". This is the hard drive version which lets you edit your recordings. It's the -r and ram format. You will be extremely please. I own the E100 which has a bigger hard drive, 4x recording and picture thumbnail menus and costs $300-$400 more. E80 should be around $480-$520 delivered in the US. Good LUCK

"hard drive version which lets you edit your recordings."

You can do that with those versions that don't have a HD too, cause you can edit on ram disks which are small HDs. e50 is about $350.00

Iv'e had 3 DVD Recorders, all Panasonic. The best in my opinion, I especially like the DVD-RAM for Recording & Erasing over and over.

I would have thought the price for a second hand one would be much closer to £160.

Anyway, this is NOT bst.

I was just curious about the price that's all. You gave it in UK pds & our stupid US dollar is down to 1.89, so your price is more than it costs new US :-)
