i have ftp'd a film over to the xbox hd and it plays fine just with no sound. everything else has sound, ie games and other films played through xbmp.
do i need to install some new codecs, if so is this easy to do?

cheers

yeah seems to me its a bad audio encoding- it's practically impossible to add aditional codecs- there are a few (wma codecs in particular) that can be added- go into the xbmp 's folders and find the codec folder- in there should be a txt file telling you what additional codecs are supported and where to download them from.

use the Gspot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) codec info program to find out what codecs are being used- if its wma then you may be ok by just adding the new codecs.

however, if its an mp3, then i've had the same problem, the best way to sort out the problem is to reencode the audio- easiest way to do this is with virtualdub mod - which will let you split the audio and video components- let you re-encode the audio with a standard mp3 codec (such as LAME- the reencoding can be done in many things- nero wave studio, dppoweramp, besweet), then remux the video and the new audio in virtual dubmod

yeah i second that- they seem to have got ff/rw sorted in the latest build, keymapping is a little different, but i don't go along with all the people who claim its buggy- thats just not case anymore

the python scripting function is great too if you know how to code in python some people have written some quite useful python scripts, e.g. basic browsing of shoutcast's website, for streams, and wake on lan for your pc, for allthose people who stream media from their pc.

but I still think the audio is a result of an unknown codec or a bad encode- the radium mp3 codec may not be supported by xbmp/xbmc

They fixed the FF/RW issues? What build is this, any other bugs you noticed on it?

12/02/2004 is the latest build- fast forward/ rewind does seem to work- not quite worked it out 100%, i stumbled upon it last night- couldn't work out how to make it stop fast forwarding though :p. In addition it has this fast (up/down) and slow (left/right) advance using the dpad on the joypad or the up down left right on the remote.

dvd playback only works with vobs unfortuneately, so no menus- file stacking is excellent now- no need for the cd1,cd2 etc suffix at the end of the files- basically if 90% of the filename is the same, e.g. if you have several episodes named as the following The.Simpsons.150x.avi- it will stack them together- and play them consecutively.

not had anything not work yet, most things i would call bugs tend to be due to incompatibilities between current xbmc versions and outdated skins which may not support all the options that the newer builds have.

codecs updated on every release.

lots of great (although a little pointless additions) such as an http server (control xbmc remotely from your web browser on pc), weather updates.

the one thing that didn't playback as i said before which was an audio encoding problem which caused problems on both xbox mediaplayer and xbmc, and on a mate's pc who didn't have the relevant mp3 codec.
