can Dvd burner read dvd's, for example can I insert a dvd into the DVD burner and watch movies off of it or do i need a separate dvd-rom drive??

You can do it but I certainly DO NOT recommend doing that. I used my first DVD Burner as an all-in-one drive (watched quite a few movies on it) and it ended up dying after only 8 months of use. Get a seperate DVD-ROM drive. You can get a nice Pioneer 120 (don't get the slot loader model) for under $40 shipped from www.newegg.com and If you are in the UK I am sure you can find it for about 30-35 pounds. Just remember that it is always MUCH cheaper to replace a DVD-ROM drive than a DVD Burner. ;)
