I can't seem to connect my xbox to my computer. I am using a crossover cable. I have set my computer to ip: 192.198.0.3 (I have tried a bunch of other settings too), subnetmask to:255.255.255.0 and gateway i left blank. I set the xbox to ip:192.198.0.1 with the same subnetmask as above. I have clicked on static ip on the xbox. When I try to connect, I get a "Timed out" error everytime. I tried to ping the xbox and got the same error from my pc. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

make sure to set the gateway on the xbox to 192.198.0.3 (the ip address of your pc)

So, the ip address on my computer and the gateway on the xbox should match???

I am still having trouble with this. I went out and bought a new network card. I set the comp ip to 198.162.0.2 and the subnetmask to 255.255.255.0. I set the xbox ip to 198.162.0.1 and the subnetmask the same as on my pc. I have left the gateway blank on both machines. When I try to connect with flashFXP I still get a time out error. Any suggestions???

firstly are you sure that static ip is enabled on your xbox? its either static or dhcp- if you are using a static ip on the pc then enable static on the xbox too.

secondly set 192.168.0.1 for the pc's ip address and the default gateway (on the xbox)

set the xbox ip to 192.168.0.2

also make sure the username and password (in evox) is xbox and xbox (its case sensitive so make sure flashfxp username and password is in lowercase.

subnet mask on both pc and xbox should be 255.255.255.0

last thing is make sure you disable winxp's firewall (if you are using it) and if using another firewall prog such as zonealarm, make sure that the xbox's ip addresses is set as a "trusted ip"- if you are not sure then just completely disable the firewall (turn it off)

are you able to ping the xbox?

Nimbles, thanks for the help but it's still not working. I have set it up as you indicated. Do I diable the WinXP firewall in Network connections? If that is the case then I have done that too. When I ping 198.162.0.2 I get a time out error. When I ping 198.161.0.1 it is successful. What should I be attempting to connect to in FlashFXP, I assume 198.162.0.2 which is the xbox's ip. Also, when I click on the network connection in windows is shows as not connected when the xbox is off, and then enabled when the xbox is turned on, so I assume that there is some sort of connection happening. Also, after attempting to connect a few times, my xbox always turns itself off after a few minutes (this seems strange to me), any ideas? All help is greatly appreciated.

what dash are you using? With evox, when you make ammendments to the settings did you go down to the bottom and select "save and exit"- if you make ammendments, and just press "b" it doesn't save the changes you make.

the ip's u mention don't make sense to me- 192.162.0.2 as your xbox- so i assume you have 192.162.0.1 as the pc ip and the default gateway- where did 198.161.0.1 come from?

could also just be a problem with flashfxp, may be an idea to try cuteftp pro or ws_ftp pro

I had a bit of a typo sorry. Here is my current setup

XBOX
Setup Network: Yes
Use Static IP: Yes
IP: 192.168.0.2
Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

COMPUTER
IP: 198.168.0.1
Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Blank

I have tried using both Cute FTP and FlashFXP with no success. I get socket error 10060 in Cute FTP. I am attempting to connect to 192.168.0.2 which I assume is correct.

Thanks again for the help.

I am using Evox dashboard, but also have Avalaunch installed which I rarely use.

Well I just figured it out. I can't believe that it was because I did not have the video cable plugged in!!! Nowhere in any tutorial does it state that.
