Hi All.

Is it possible to buy a 3.5" bay fitting USB 2.0 unit that reads Compact Flash cards and has a connector that will plug into my Elite K7S5A Mobo.
Or, do I still need to buy a USB 2.0 PCI card with an internal port to connect the 3.5" unit to.

I was looking at this on ebay, but not sure if I would need the PCI card as well (The K7S5A doesn't have USB 2.0 as standard)

Here (http://*********.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3800742536&category=18872)

Any advice appreciated

If your mobo doesn't support usb 2.0 you will have no option but to fit a pci card to upgrade it.

Unless you have any external devices (or intending to get some) that are USB 2.0 you may be wasting money. Why not just buy the 3.5 bay with USB 1.1 and the card reader. The board does have a spare usb header so unless its already been used you should be ok.

I believe you should be able to connect a usb 2 device to your usb 1.1 header as they are backwards compatible.

Thanks for replying.

I've looked into this a bit more and basically you are right, but also, this will only connect to a USB header pin not an internal USB port.

As I only need to download Compact Flash cards, which are slow anyway, this unit will do fine for me as it's backward compatible.

I've also discovered them much cheaper at ebuyer.com.

Thanks again for posting.
