low610 Mar 02, 2004, 09:08 AM Good afternoon all,
I'm new to this so please bare with me.
I've got a nec 2500a dvd writer and have recently had my PS2 chipped by a pro. This was tested before leaving the workshop.
I've tried backing up my PS2 games using Nero 6 and Games X copy. The data appears to copy all ok but i get the red screen with "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disc" message.
I've tried using different tpyes of media. The latest had the ritek GO4 dye but this still doesn't work. I have tried backing up my dvd movies with no issues.
I really hope someone can help me with this because i'm really stuck and thinking of giving up. :-(
Your help/advice would be much appreciated,
Rob.
low610 Mar 02, 2004, 03:12 PM Hey guys, i'm getting desperate now,
I've tried using recordnow max and nero 6 with verbatim dvd-r's.
It copies the data with no problems but the PS2 doesn't recognise it and i get the famous red screen.
I did see a backed up PS2 game tested on the PS2 when the chip was installed so it muse be something i'm doing wrong.
I would really appreciate some help here because it's getting a little expensive.
Does anyone have step by step instructions using Nero 6 or Record Now.
Thanks again,
Rob.
tef89 Mar 02, 2004, 03:18 PM I've only copied a couple of games for my ps2 and I used DVD Decryptor (free from the makers site) to make and burn the ISO and it worked - I used G03 riteks - sorry i can't be more help but i've not got a tremendous amount of experience with ps2 - it's all xbox for me at the moment.
onephatburner Mar 03, 2004, 03:58 AM Flip Top only works with some games, not all. Go get a modchip and it'll be fine!
tef89 Mar 03, 2004, 04:06 AM erm...he hasn't got a flip top , he's got a chip...
I've got a nec 2500a dvd writer and have recently had my PS2 chipped by a pro.
low610 Mar 03, 2004, 06:24 AM Yes, i've got a mod chip that was done by a pro. It was tested and worked ok. I'm currently running the dvdinfopro software on the disks that i've copied and so far they are all showing as ok.
I'm currently trying to find out what mod chip i've got. Is there any special way i have to boot the backed up game. I've tried booting the game in the normal way and opened the drawer and restarted the PS2.
Thanks again for all of your help,
Rob.
handyguy Mar 03, 2004, 11:31 AM You can't write games as data though.
The Wizzard Mar 03, 2004, 11:51 AM You say you saw the machine working with a backup, was it a dvd or cd backup?
Does the machine read original dvd games OK, if it does then either the modchip is faulty or there is a problem copying the games you've chosen.
Using the record now max and selecting make exact copy should be fine especially with Ritek G04 disks. By the way best to only burn at 2x until you get this sorted.
low610 Mar 03, 2004, 11:55 AM Thanks for the advice Wizzard,
I have been told it was a DVD backup and my PS2 can play originals fine. I've tried recordnowmax and nero 6. I also bought some verbatim dvd-r's bought have seen been advised that they might not have the ritek dye. I've just ordered some ARITA RITEK overprints that have the Ritek G03 dye. Has anyone had any experience with these disks and what's the difference between G03 and G04.
Thanks again for your help in advance,
Rob.
The Wizzard Mar 03, 2004, 11:58 AM Yes I've used the arita ritek g03 overprints, they work OK, what games are you trying to copy?
The Wizzard Mar 03, 2004, 12:01 PM Verbatim disks do not have the ritek dye, so if you assumed these were g04 you're wrong. However verbatims should work, make sure you use the copy option and set the software to burn at 2x max. You can find this in the settings.
low610 Mar 03, 2004, 12:31 PM I've got GTA Vice City, Burnout 2, GTA111, Destruction Derby Arena and the Sims.
From your last post Wizzard i take it that not all games copy very well.?
tef89 Mar 03, 2004, 02:14 PM I've got no idea how relevant this is but I've noticed this other thread about the NEC 2500 burner and riteks (noticed you had a nec 2500 too) :-
http://www.cdrom-guide.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=269355
worth a look maybe.
low610 Mar 03, 2004, 02:59 PM Thanks for that tef89, maybe it's a problem with my drive then. I'll have a look on Nec's website for further info.
Thanks,
Rob.
tef89 Mar 03, 2004, 04:29 PM Np's - really hope you find the problem as I know how frustrating it can be.
low610 Mar 05, 2004, 04:44 AM Not sure if this has any bearing but i've got the Matrix DNS3 V10 chip. I have been advised by the installer that it's probablly a loose wire off the chip.
Unless you guys can think of anything.?
Thanks,
Rob.
musicman44 Mar 08, 2004, 10:15 AM Are you copying "on the fly"?
In nero 6 copy the game using Image Recorder then burn back to DVD using Burn Image.
Never had a problem using this method.
low610 Mar 09, 2004, 11:39 AM Hi Musicman44,
I've tried copying every way possible using several software packages such as Nero6, recordnowmax and Games X Copy. My console is going back to the chip installer in a couple of weeks so fingers crossed they can fix it.
Thanks,
Rob.
cag1 Mar 09, 2004, 05:47 PM I used Nero with Ritec yellow top for PS2 at 4X & it didn't work. Tried again at 2X & booted fine.
This was my 1st tries on my new NEC 2500 but don't think I changed any of the dvd settings apart from write speed
low610 Mar 10, 2004, 02:17 PM I've just tried a tested copied game on my console and i still got the red screen. So i must be the chip/wire.
I'll keep you posted after i've had the console checked.
Rob.
onephatburner Mar 12, 2004, 03:19 AM ok my bad! you got a modchip! I used ultra iso to make image and burn image using nero 6. The coolest thing about my ps2 that it will boot no matter what kind of dvd-r disc I burned, it even boot those cheap DVD-R which I paid about 55 cents each.
