Well I got a DVR-106 from www.avlogic.com and I tried to burn tons of dvdrs on it and none of them worked. I have burnt many DVD's before and have no clue why it wasnt working so I called up AVLogic and then they said they would send me a new one when I send this back. So I just got my new one today. I put it in and it was ready to run...then I burnt a xbox game with it and it didnt boot. I then try to burn School Of Rock, also didnt work. I burnt both these at 2.4x so should be good and work.

I have 4x Ritek G04 media DVD+R. I use to have a NEC DVD+R burner in my computer and it worked perfect with 3/4 of this same spindle of media. Now with my Pioneer DVR-106 (also the firmware is all up to date...it was when I got it today) it cant burn anything :( . If anybody could please help me it would be very greatly appreciated!!
THANKS!!!

Just out of curiosity, have you tried School of Rock in a standalone or in the X-Box? At first glance, it sounds like the 106 doesn't like the media but Riteks should work fine. I've never heard of anyone having problems with 2 106s in a row. :-/ Have you tried burning CDs on it? Were the DVDs you did your own rips or downloads? Just trying to eliminate all possibilities here. ;)

They were all downloads and I have tested them before to make sure that they are working. Both of the images work perfect when I burn them with a different DVD burner. So the images are good. Also I tried School Of Rock in both standalone and a xbox.

Well, you still got me stumped m8. lol

What software? Have you checked the Riteks in ADVDinfo to make sure they are truly Riteks?

When you put these DVDs in your PC, what's on them?

Have you tried burning a -R or different +R media to compare? Know this might sound like a pain, but ask a friend or something for a disc or 2. Always helps to narrow down the problem if you want to find a solution. ;)

could be faulty. Do the discs read back on the writer?

Just noticed the whole + format thing. The Ritek G04 dye is on the 4x DVD-R Riteks. There is a different dye on the + format Riteks (Ricoh I believe).

Well the TDK DVD that burnt today worked perfect. Does anyone know where to get cheap TDK discs, or Verbatim??

Not cheap no, get riteks their cheaper and they work perfectly with the 106 as long as its DVD-R and not DVD+R you buy.

Know any cheap places for Riteks? Thanks!!
I've heard that you can buy TDK for about $1. So if I can get Ritek for $1 why not just go with TDK? Are Ritek better then TDK?

TDK doesn't really exist. The deal is that TDK is like most name brands and they don't manufacter thier own dye. You generally find Ritek or Taiyo Yuden dyes on TDK but every once in a while they sneak in cheap quality dyes. You really can't tell from the outside and they vary from batch to batch. I don't know of any place that carries TDKs on a regular basis for $1 a disc but I know for a fact that you can get 50 packs of 4x Ritek DVD-R discs for under $50 with free Fedex shipping from www.newegg.com The price varies a bit but it never goes above $1 a disc. So for a little bit less than the best deal on 2x TDK discs, you can get 4x Riteks. Also if speed doesn't matter that much to you, you can find the 1x (2x depending on your firmware) Riteks for 70-80 cents a disc. Anyways it's not the fact that TDK are bad, for the most part they are excellent discs but I would rather pick up discs that come straight from the dye manufacterer than to have some company slap thier label on someone else's disc and jack up the price. This also takes the guesswork out of which dye you are getting from batch to batch.

Accept what you're saying but I think TDK do still have their own factories in Japan pumping out DVDR media. Problem for us in the rest of the world is that, to keep up with demand, they also use other manufacturers.

If you can get hold of the real deal (which is hard unless you actually get to test the media first) TDK is better than most other brands, but it's making sure you get the right ones -- and that usually means not cheap, and not spindles.

So this is good then (also get the white tops (I think that it looks nicer)):
http://store.yahoo.com/meritline/ritek-4x-dvd-r-dvdr-printable-blank-media-disc-bulk.html

103.95 with shipping for 100

seems reasonable to me

Yup, that is quite reasonable. How much are you paying for TDKs at the moment?

I just bought 5 from a friend for $5

That's very reasonable but I know you won't find them for that price in stores.

The best way to find media for any writer is just use this page, choose Shop by DVD Burner/Recorder:

Personally, I'd recommend rima.com or newegg.com over Meritline, as they have had some nasty BBB complainst over the years but who knows, maybe you'll have luck with them. They're not a total rip-off company, just have poor business practices.

I was showing where a media list is that works with what writer you can then buy the same media from another vendor.

I order from cdrdvdrmedia.com they are fast, odd thing is, they are owned by meritline.
