I want to get a printer thats not too expensive.

I want to use it for printing photos taken from my digital camera. The camera is not top of the range, so i dont need an over the top printer.

I'd also like to be able to print onto cds and dvds with this printer.

And finally i'd like the running costs (ie ink) to be reasonable too!!

Thanks for any opinions in advance!!

What digi cam you got m8?
1 of my printers (I have many) which I'm currently using is the Canon i865. Fast as f+++ really quiet, cheap to run compats are about £11 for a set of 5 carts and they last forever as they are individual tanks. Supports Pictbridge so prints straight from your camera. Special cassy to print to CD/DVD and also a special caddy for 6x4 paper that sits over the paper feed and with the turn of a know loads/unloads your 6x4 paper. With it in the load position your printer auto selects 6x4 which is neat and it also selects the right settings for cd/dvd media with the attacment in place. Print quality is sublime and for about £150 it's a steal. Go get one NOW.

The Epson C64 sounds perfect for you! You can get replacement inks for less than £20. The inks are all seperate too so if the yellow runs out you dont have to replace all the colours.

Printer can be found here: http://www.wightcomputers.co.uk/acatalog/Printers.html

i love my epson stylus 960. I paid $250 shipped for it brand new. I get the ink off ebay for $35 shipped. Photos are top notch and the label it prints on my xbox games are killer.

I'll risk starting a "Printer war" here and say here that whilst the Epson's are a fine printers they do suffer more than the Canon range from blocked printheads...as for ink/carts try Cartex.co.uk..cheapest i've found and work fine in Canon's.
I waste more ink cleaning Epson printheads than I'm sure gets used in printing with them, something that the Canon dosen't suffer from significantly. I have in my toolbox old Epson catridges filled full of cleaning fluid but dont have any in there for the Canon...
As to the model of Canon I suppose it depends on how deep your pockets are the one that Danman suggests would be ideal.
Another thing to note (which may or may not affect you) is the Epson software, we have them running over the network @ work and the "status monitor" software gives all kinds of errors.

Well if it has to print cd/dvd media then i agree with danman and recommend the Canon i865, the epson r200 also prints cds direct but the ink costs are double that of the canon i865, alternatively see if you can pick up a 2nd hand epson photo 900 (very cheap running costs) if you decide on the Canon i865 then comet does them for £129.

Bought a Canon i865 this weekend on the strength of the posts on here and the good reviews. I have always been an " epson" man for the last 10 years.
I am amazed by this Canon, the disc printing facility is fantastic, its speed on other documents and photos etc is awesome.

And with compatibles ( seperate colours ) at £2.34 a colour...you cant go wrong.
