Just got a old dvd player for the kids bedroom Its a sont dvp-ns400d.

When playing ntsc films the image is in black and white.

ntsc ps2 games play in full colour.

The set up is.

Scart in the back of the telly, audio leads are connected to the head of the scart, the audio leads(red, tyllow) go in to the back of the player. The other end of the scart goes in the ps2, and the video wire (white) plugs in to the bit that plugs in to the ps2.

Its a blaze scart cable.

Also tryed a direct scart from the dvd to the telly, no luck.

any ideas?

maybe take a look in dvd player settings and make sure player is set too rgb,if player has component output turn it off first otherwise rgb will be disabled.

Here's a region code hack, might solve the issue. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Sony+DVP-NS400D

Have you tried the player with another TV .... might just be the TV is not NTSC compatible, especially if it's an oldie or cheapie.

I dont understand how to do any of them region hacks lol

It does support 60hz, ntsc ps2 games play fine, and the ps2 plays these dvds in colour.

The hacks are made through an external IR source, either the remotes that everyone seems to use or they even go into detail on how to do it with pocket pc's or a laptop with an IR port.

are you using composite leads? if im reading your setup correctly you are, The dvd player will require a full rgb scart lead (21 pin Scart to Scart) unless it has an output option in the menu for pal60 also make sure you tv type is set to pal and not auto in the dvd players menu.
