Just put this in a new PC for a friend. Won't boot my WinXP CD. I checked the CD in other PCs, it boots fine there. Already told BIOS to try booting from there 1st, then go to HDD. Also have tried every combination of jumper settings (all CS, M/S, S/M). I even tried changing controllers (primary to secondary), with no change. I'm all out of ideas, anyone got any? This thing is brand new, only 3 hours out of its original packaging, I can't believe it would be busted already... :furious:

well you're lucky if you've never bought something DOA as of course it happens or the expression wouldn't exist.

i have had this a few times with PC's where even though I changed the bios sequence it still loads from the HD0. Try changing the bios sequence, assuming it gives 3 options, to CDROM, Floppy, Floppy so the HD0 isn't even an option.

Well, I bought it from NewEgg.com, and I can honestly say I've never had a DOA item from them. The drive has power, and it's recognized by the BIOS. I'll give your suggestion a try, thank you!

The BIOS might not be updating. After setting the boot sequence, try forcing an ESCD in the BIOS under under PnP/PCI Configurations.
