Ive bin using DVD Shrink for ages now and Im just wondering if the quality after compressing a movie (whether it be 10 times comp or just 1or 2 times comp) actually decreases?

Ive compared the origionals to the compressed movies and Im buggered if I can see or hear any difference.

If It does decrease the quality, please explain ( in laymans terms ) why I cant pick it

thankyou.

Are you using the deep analysis feature? The quality definitely decreases if you have the maximum compression on there (ie 50% original quality). If you are using the Deep Analysis feature then it cushions the quality drain a fair bit. I have compared high compression projects with and without the Deep Analysis and in most cases the ones that didn't use the Deep Analysis started to look grainy (more like SVCD or VCD). With the Deep Analysis selected I could barely tell the difference between the backup and the original. I think the quality issue has more to do with the quality of the initial source disc than anything else (the original) if the original wasn't cleaned up very well then it won't look very good when you back it up (of course the original doesn't look much better). I thought the same thing when I saw my backups of True Lies and Heavy Metal. I thought that they looked terrible but when I comprared them to the originals then I realized that they were virtually 100% identical. It is also all in the eye of the beholder. Those who are ultra picky about quality can spot the difference between an original and a backup, even so it is generally pretty small and you have to study the screen carefully to notice any difference. If you are comfortable with VCD and SVCD quality then you aren't really going to be able to see any kind of a difference with DVD Shrink.

Ok, so I used the "deep analysis" option but I didn't see anything after about 40 minutes of analysing, so I hit the "backup" button. Is that how you suppose to do it?

The Deep Analysis option takes at least 2x as long as the regular option. For the Deep Analysis option you make sure the box is checked and then hit the backup button and it will do the rest.

Just a quick question......
From the way you just described it, when you check the box... it will run Deep Analysis and then automaticly go to the back up process??

I don't see any box to check. I see Deep analysis and back up buttons thats it. I've been running deep analysis, then I have to run back up. It sure would be more convienent to be able to do it all at once.........
I'm using version 3.1.7.5
Do I need a different version or something??

thanks

That is because you are pressing on the "Deep Analysis" button on the main menu, you want to press "Backup" and from there you will have the option to check a box which will enable Deep Analysis so that it will do the analysis first and then straight away it will convert.
