I have tried putting avi files through tmpeg converter and then through tmpeg author and have found that i have a good quality picture but no audio. I seem to loose the audio in the converter. I select the avi file I want to convert and the audio file pops in automatically. Can anybody help ?

Probably because they use vbr mp3 audio.

hi celtic_druid
Thank you replying to my question
im fairly new to dvd, is there any way to find out if it is vbr mp3 audio or another good program to either change the audio format or a better program to convert to vob file so i get the audio

Many thanks again

Did you try renaming your AVI extension with a ASF extension?? Try it and let us know if it works. thats how I do it.

Try something like GSpot to detect what audio it uses.

Can't see much point in using TMPGEnc to encode the audio anyway as it doesn't do AC3. However if you frameserve an AVI that uses vbr mp3 audio with AVISynth TMPGEnc will encode it fine. It will also encode quicker if you get AVISynth to do the resizing.

I have put an avi file through Gspot that I was having trouble with and these are the results
Video Path: S) --> AVI Splitter --> DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video Decompressor --> (R)
Audio source:MPEGLAYER3 (MP3) (0x0055)
Audio Codec Name:0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
this belongs to an avi file that when I encoded I lost the audio. The audio was there prior to encoding. Can anybody help with info on how to get encoder to keep audio ?

Was it VBR though? As I said, frameserve with AVISynth and the audio should convert fine.
