JACKAS Apr 03, 2004, 06:32 PM have just reformatted my hd due to numerous problems, and reinstalled win xp pro ,though now i cant install any games ,every disc i put in and try to install ,fails , its the same message everytime ,though the disc maybe at 25 per cent or 75 per cent , it will say "The file .....................cannot be copied ,the archive is either corupted or there is a read error ......abort, retry, ignore " taht is as far as it ever gets , then when u choose ignore it comes up with " error 1335 - followed by file no. (usually data cab ) "then "error 2350 internal error " "there may have been a network error ,an error reasding from the cdrom or the file may be corrupt "
i know there is nothing wrong with the discs cos i have installed them on other computers , i have reformatted and reinstalled xp 4 times but have same problem everytime , the only way i got 1 game on was (farcry )
was to format then install win 98 , install game then upgrade to xp , then i could run it ,it also says after the errro message sometimes " consult msi.chm help for further advice " ???? does anyone ahve any ideas cos im pulling my f ******g hair out !!!!!!!!!!!
cheers T.I.A.

If his CD-ROM drive is dead then he won't be able to extract it in the first place. All it takes is a little brain power. You should try to use some.
JACKAS Apr 04, 2004, 05:01 AM anybody got any real suggestions ???
kenp Apr 04, 2004, 08:36 AM When you install Win XP are you installing on NTFS or Fat32 ?, also have you installed the games on Win XP before or was it an upgrade after installing the games ?.

Lindsey321 Apr 04, 2004, 02:51 PM the best thing right now is to reinstall windows xp, and for best results, try to upgrade your file system to NTFS this time... :)

RPotaczala Apr 05, 2004, 02:34 PM Try to install the games on a friends pc. If that works then examine urs more closely.
=Maybe your cdrom is outdated, might check that one out.
=Check to make sure your harddrive is running ok.
=Make sure you clean your cdrom drive iwth a laser cleaner maybe there is a obstruction on it that is preventing it.
=Try to copy the games setup folder to the destop and then install it.

catkin Apr 05, 2004, 04:39 PM Some ideas you could try here:
http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/trouble.html
also I once had a similar problem with a game, I could install and run it from my CD writer but not from my standard Cd Drive,
I would also suggest you run windows update and update your version of windows installer
JACKAS Apr 05, 2004, 04:44 PM it s not jus one cd though its every game i got !!!!! lol

Which would indicate that the problem is with yor PC or Drive and not the disks so its a case of trial and error
Update windows installer
Use a CD Drive lens cleaner
Reboot immediately before installation
Turn off Virus Guard, Firewall etc before installing.
Although you say you have installed these games on other pcs, have you ever had them working on this particular pc and with what operating system.
If you have not, then it could be a hardware driver issue or if they are not retail copies then the media may not be compatible with the drive, which was the problem I had with this one particular game, are all the games on the same media
If you have had them on this pc but not with XP then it is most likely a windows xp issue
JACKAS Apr 05, 2004, 05:18 PM everything has worked fine on win xp till i tried to install farcry ,when the error messages appeared during the install ,then also on bfv, couldnt fix it ,so tried clean install ,obviously lost all my other games during format so tried to reinstall these ,needless to say keep getting same error messages
