Trying to do a BackUp of C: using Drive Image 7. I have done a couple backups before ok. Now get error message after it write 2 or 3 CD's.
Gives me message EA39070D : Write Failed. Tried doing BackUp twice with same message appearing. After I wasted several CDs.. (sigh).
Did a search on this Message and it suggests I upgrade to V2i Protector 2.0. Huh? Only had DI 7 for about 5 months, now I am supposed to pay more to get it to work? Also saw a mention of upgrading the Driver for my CD driver. Not sure of make/model that the Dell has in it? But why would i need to do this? No big upgrades etc..
Any thoughts or helpfull hints out there?

I have had these error messages as well trying to backup my C drive but I am writing (I think) to DVD +R via my HP dvd writer dvd300e which also writes CD's. The media I am using is DVD +R 4.7 gb I have wasted 7 @Ł2 now and getting very very angry as I cannot seem to get over the problem. One time it wrote 4 dvd's and blew up on the 5th another time it blew on the 2nd. Any ideas please ?

 I have the new version of Ghost v9.0 and I'm trying to image my C: drive to CDRW. I get this error about 10 minutes into the process while still on the first disk. Norton's KB is no help - my combo drive is on their compatibility list [ Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324B ].
Anyone else had this problem? Have you found a solution?

This problem is not restricted to Dell. When I installed PowerQuest Drive Image 7.0 in May 2004, I had a BENQ burner and got this error message. On advice from Symantec European Customer Service, I updated and bought a PHILIPS PCRW5232; same error message.
I have since gone through Drive Image 7.01, 7.03 and now 7.04; same error message with each version after 3 to 4 mins. Until yesterday when, after an uninstall/erase/reinstall of 7.04, it ran for 9h 7m but without burning...! It stopped and gave a message "Backup of C:\ did not complete successfully. The server threw an exception".
Customer service now blame the PHILIPS hardware. PHILIPS say they have received numerous complaints about this and say the PowerQuest software is at fault as the burner has the latest BIOS configuration.
I have passed this back to Symantec Customer Service and am waiting to hear...

 I have just heard from Symantec, they cannot fix the problem, Drive Image 7.04 is supposed to be the business. They have offered a full refund of the purchase price... What a letdown!!!!!

This doesnt look good and it seems to be a major issue.
Can someone confirm what Chipset your PC is using? To do this go into Device Manager and look whats listed under the IDE controllers and USB controllers.
Also go into the BIOS and confirm the Version installed - have you all tried resetting, updating the BIOS etc? If not take a look at BIOS Help (http://www.cd-burner-help.com/bios.htm)
I am not sure if this software calls the ASPI but you may want to look at that as well ASPI Layer Help (http://www.cd-burner-help.com/aspi-layer.htm)
I know this is long winded but you may want to consider looking at Software Help (http://www.cd-burner-help.com/software.htm)
Good Luck.

I am a very novice at this but have had a problem doing a backup with both Norton Ghost and Stomp Backup.
I had read that people had a problem with the Phillips DVD drive and I had one on my Dell machine. After three or four discs they would stop. One time Ghost completed 75% and then asked for the first disc. Could not read. Stomp backup had about the same problems.
I bought a Plextor drive, and after much fiddling,(pls read novice above) I got it going. Did some simple copy tests, all seemed well.
Went to do back ups and had the same problem.
I think maybe there is a problem with Windows that drops the ball after a couple of writes.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
