Was not sure if this shuld have gone in the Internet Software forum, but as I think it involves my router, I`m putting it here...
I`ve got a new PC, with a router for my ADSL conenction. I`ve had broadband for sometime now, but previously through a modem so have not had to forward ports to use internet applications.
When I run programs like Overnet, data is transferred but during which time I am unable to use my internet connection for anything else (e.g. Internet Explorer). It them refuses toupload or download anything else. Once I close Overnet down, everything is ok again.
I have been told this may be linked to the port forwarding so tested my router here. (http://tomyy.preinheimer.com/asp.php?view=netgear.) Using the 4662 port (I`ve treid others too) it is rejected with the error error on ip 81.86.***.***! (that being my ISP IP address).
I have configured my router software to allow the 4662 port (again I have tried other ports) but to no success. I was also told to use a static IP address, so in the TCP/IP section of my connection I have set...
IP address: 192.168.0.99
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
and the DNS server as 192.168.0.1
I`m really stuck for ideas now, can anybody help?
I`m using the Netgear router (model DM602, I think!)
Thanks in advance
