Heres the deal: I have 2 routers, one a wireless B and one a wireless G. Each router is seperated by one floor in my house. The wireless G is connected directly to the cable modem and then the wireless B is connected to the Wireless G via cat5 cable. The wireless G router also has 3 other computers hardwired to it. The wireless B router has one hardwired computer and one laptop connecting via wireless. The problem is, the internet works fine on the wireless G but doesnt work on the Wireless B downstairs. The computer sconnected to the wireless B recognizes the network and they can see eachother and the router itself, but they cannot get on the internet.

Sidenotes: I have assigned the Wireless G router DHCP to only grab from 192.168.1.100-149 and the Wireless B router DHCP to only grab from 192.168.1.150-250 so that there is no IP Address conflictions between the networks. The SSIDs of each network is different. [Will i have to switch the channels of each WAP to be differnt so that there is no interference??]

Main Question: Why isnt the internet working on the wireless B router??

Very frusterated, all comments welcomed and thanked in advance. THANKS!!

Figured it out, needed to assign unique gateways and subnet masks for each router, so now one is 192.168.2.1 and one is 192.168.1.1

Does anyone know if I will need to switch the channels of each router? Thanks.

Most home routers can handle up to ~255 wired network devices. You really don't need two routers acting as DHCP on such a small home network. One router and as many regular network hubs\switches as required are all you actually needed to expand a network.

I would just turn off all DHCP and wireless functions of the older Wireless B router so that it just acts like a regular network hub/Switch.

Thanks for the input, will do. I have a question though; If a switch or hub does not run a DHCP server how are IP's assigned to each node?

The Wireless G router will provide DHCP right through the hub\Switch. The Hubs and Switches are basically just splitting and multiplying the number of ports from the router.

I see, so i assume that this would enhance the ability to share files as well.

I cannot figure out how to set up the second router as a switch. One Laptop connects to the B router because of the coverage area. (It can only get signal from the B).... Every time i turn off DHCP Server on the wireless B the connection goes out and i cannot renew an ip address and i also cannot get back into the router config since i am no longer on the network, so i have to keep resetting the router by hand. Anyone?
