Okay,

Recently my cd-rom has not been working. After I insert a cd and try to look at the files i get: please insert a cd into drive e:. In device manager it says it is working properly. Anyways, I uninstalled the driver and when I restarted the computer I was able to see the files on the cd. But when I tried to access the file the light on the cd-rom was on but nothing happened. I restarted the computer and now it wont even recognize the cd again??!!! PLease help.

"could be drivers"

No it couldn't, as no optical drive uses drivers. Windows has native support of all optical devices. It doesn't need, nor use drivers.

If the drive is physically installed correctly and shows no errors in Device Manager, the only way to know for certain if it's faulty or just your setup is to test it in another PC.
