Hello again,
I finished deleting the files with the Trojan StartPage virus on them and this morning when I started my computer 2 messages popped up saying:

Message received: Cannot find the file 'msinfo.exe' [or one of its components]. Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required librairies are available.
Another Message received: Desktop: could not load or run 'msinfo.exe' specified in the WIN.INI file. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the WIN.INI file.

Ive never heard of msinfo.exe before, does anyone know where I can download it from? I tried rebooting my computer and the same messages popped up..hmm..

Thank you again,
Chris

For Windows XP\2000, MSINFO32.exe is a real Windows file but MSINFO.EXE is a trojan file. Run MSCONFIG, edit your win.ini and remove the reference to it.

QWERTY, I ran the MSCONFIG and I unchecked the msinfo.exe, but how do I remove it? When I right click the file, the only options it gives me are clear, edit, & new

BTW, I live in SJ! SMALL WORLD! *wee!* :wavey:

Once you disable it you shouldn't have to worry about it. If you want to remove the reference completely you need to manually edit the win.ini file in notepad and delete that line. Win.ini should be in your c:\Windows directory.
