I was given a Maddog Dominator dual/combo DVD rw.

That's pretty nice.

I opened it today. It says on the box & on the website, that it supports W98, ME, 2000, XP. It is bundled with NERO express software.

Sounds good so far.

In looking at the instructions, on the last page it says that the drive will NOT play DVD-ROMs unless the OS is WinXP!

My OS is Win2000.

It's past the 14 day purchase to return it. Am I a victim here? No hope?

There is no mention, anywhere, except inside the box that you have to have XP to play DVD-ROMs. And I can't return it. I'm ticked. How can they get away with that?

Are all DVD burners like this--only read ROMs if you have WinXP, or have we been bitten?

thanks,
Bob

(a very unhappy Maddog consumer. ps. if you know of DVD-Burners that WILL work with NT5 (Win2000), I'd appreciate input as to which ones.)

Thanks again.

This sounds really odd, as all the DVD Burners i have ever used and heard of will play DVD-Roms despite what O/S you are using as this is feature of the drive rather then the operating system.

I have had a look at the specs on the website and it says it plays DVD-Roms so im as miffed as you.
