I want to use an old HD for extra storage. It had ME on it. I started to format it and then it stopped. I can't format it from DOS anymore as it says I have to run FDISK. When I start FDISK it checks the drive integrity to 3 percent and then remains at 3 percent...no matter how long I leave it running it doesn't change. I can't read the drive anymore, I can't resolve the problem from any start up disks. There were no viruses on the drive. Does anyone have any advice on how to format this thing? Try partition magic 8 on it or some other hd program. Did you try the hd manf's setup disk? Free at the hd manf site

Stopping at 3% seems obvious drive is bad.
