I want to use an old HD for extra storage. It had ME on it. I started to format it and then it stopped. I can't format it from DOS anymore as it says I have to run FDISK. When I start FDISK it checks the drive integrity to 3 percent and then remains at 3 percent...no matter how long I leave it running it doesn't change. I can't read the drive anymore, I can't resolve the problem from any start up disks. There were no viruses on the drive. Does anyone have any advice on how to format this thing? Thanks in advance for any help.

Try partition magic 8 on it or some other hd program. Did you try the hd manf's setup disk? Free at the hd manf site

Stopping at 3% seems obvious drive is bad.
