I just wondered what your thoughts were on the subject, since I am doing an assignment about Digital Piracy.
Gamecube is supposed to be pirate proof and I wondered if anyone knows if Nintendo's countermeasures have been beaten and is Xbox pirate-proof?
Also is Emulation illeagal? (since I know little about the subject)
Any Links to realted articles from reliable sources would be appriciated.

Nothing is pirate-proof (Dreamcast anyone?). As far as general copying of Cube games, like Playstation, I don't see it happening. The hardware required would be far too expensive. I guarentee that there will be pirated 'silvers' in Hong Kong though.
With X-BOX, it's more likely that you will eventually be able to copy games yourself, but again, COST is the problem. DVD-RW drives and blank DVD medium is still far to expensive for the average person like you or me.
Is emulation illegal? Emulation in itself is not, distributing pirated ROMS is. Emulator programs themselves are perfectly legal as well (NESticle, MAME come to mind). You will notice that they are NEVER distributed with ROMS, and the authors state plainly to NEVER distribute them with the emulator (because it would be illegal, and then they could get in trouble for it). Think of a ROM as a CD-ROM ISO, they're basically the same thing, just a different medium.

rudey is right, the xbox has already been "hacked." in fact, you can actually modify your xbox to play copied games without buying a separate chip (just flash a bios in the system--too complicated for me). i, personally am a big fan of videogame piracy, as for my thoughts. micro$oft has plenty of money. it's stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. as for emulation, some roms are legal to own and distribute if and only if the game is no longer being sold by the company that made it and they are no longer making money on it in any way. i believe this is correct. as for related articles, start by looking at www.cherryroms.com or www.enigmah.com
