first off, it's a thompson drive

secondly, i've double, triple checked EVERYTHING in here. yellow power cords appear to be perfectly fine, nothing is loose or broken(except for the fan that popped off its hinge, but we put that back on), the hard drive isn't dead, it's just that the dvd-rom drive won't open.

me and a buddy of mine pretty much stripped it down completelyand have everything disassembled, and got it to stop flashing red and green. now it just flashes the normal green that any xbox should, but still, no luck with the dvd drive.

this isn't like your usual dvd drive trouble either where if you force it enough, you can pop it open. we're pretty strong guys, and this sucker won't budge. it's almost like there's something broken keeping it from moving. we've taken the dvd drive out, taken the metal lid off of it and can't figure anything out. it makes an odd noise like it's locking up inside...like it's trying to open, but can't.

the spidle appears to be a at slant, and when i put a disc in the drive it sits about 2mm or 3mm higher to the left, than the right. when we put a game in there, it just gives us a DDE. we tried more than one game too, including a copy of espn2k5 that is flawless and works on another xbox without any trouble.

anyone know what the trouble might be? any help is appreciated. i keep thinking it has something to do with that damn slant. would it be possible to get another thompson drive from another xbox and put it in this one without a hitch? i havn't modded this xbox.

i was serious too. 2 free months of xbox live to the person who can help me solve this dilemna.

i wish lol..i don't have a credit card :(

it was the dvd rom drive. a piece of plastic was jamming the laser from lowering, thus keeping the tray from being able to move(hard to explain :(). the previous owner must've smacked it for not reading a disc i figure. so i popped it out and did some pot tweaking to the laser on the thompson to be safe(it was filthy with resin), and stuck in the cables and it worked. while i was in there i switched some wires and made the light half red and half green too. sold it to a buddy of mine today. frankenbox lives on!
