I am trying to create GD+G disks to play on my stand-alone Acoustic Sounds DVD600K karaoke DVD player and would appreciate advice on how best to go about creating my own compilation disks?
I am running XP Pro and Nero 6.3.1.17. What other applications do I need and steps with which to burn my disks?
:hdspin: :round:

vinniedub Sep 27, 2004, 10:59 PM best hardware for this is plextor, best software is cdrwin. there are other ways to do this those are just the best. for burning CD+G using non (cdrwin) compatible burners go to www.karaokeplaygound.co.uk
alba Sep 28, 2004, 10:29 AM Thanks Vinniedub...
I did have CDRWin 5 installed, but no longer - I found it a bit convuluted and reverted back to Nero.
Your opinion on the merits and ease of using CDRWin over Nero would be much appreciated?
:wavey:
captain casein Sep 28, 2004, 01:19 PM cdrwin 5 is the wrong version you need the Goldenhawk software and probably vertion 3.9f or g, somewhere round there is around the latest vertion and if you'v got a compatible writer (plextor maybe) away you go.
vinniedub Sep 28, 2004, 08:32 PM The Captain is correct, you can't use 'CDRWIN 5' as it has nothing to do with Goldenhawk (the creators of cdrwin) NOTHING works as good for CD+G as the h/ware - s/ware combination I mentioned
vinniedub Sep 28, 2004, 08:33 PM one other piece of s/ware I use to rip from CD+G to mp3+G is audiograbber and the good news is it's free
alba Sep 29, 2004, 08:55 AM Hi Guys!
Thanks for the help... I now have Goldenhawk software CDRWin version 3.9f installed, as well as mp3+G and have downloaded CD+G.zip tracks to my PC but find that when I burn these tracks to disk, all I get is vocal track and no visual display of graphics when played on my DVD karaoke player. How can this be? I assumed that CD+G tracks are meant to display graphics to allow you to sing along to and wonder if I am doing something wrong??
Could it be my burner - an old TEAC W54E CDRW drive? It is recognised by CDRWin and burns all my other disk formats without any problems (though a little slower than newer drives?!) and the resulting disks play as you would expect them to do...
Am I going wrong with mp3+G? I choose to "Zip to Bin" with this program and create "Cue/Text file", as well as "Cleanup Filenames" before I burn my disks. Should I opt to "Zip to MP3+G" instead of Bin??
How can I burn disks so that I can view graphics/lyrics as well as hearing vocal tracks?
Help/advice much appreciated!
DarkDog UK Sep 29, 2004, 10:43 AM Ensure that both your TEAC burner and the Accoustic Sounds DVD Karaoke player are both compatible with the CD+G format.
eg: does your player display the words on the tv when you play an original CD+G karaoke disc in it? :)

u need to check your rewriter both reads and writes cdg as some plextor will write the disc but once its cdg it will only read the audio not the graphics.
alba Sep 29, 2004, 02:06 PM Thanks to DarkDog UK and cardandtom - you both mention compatibilty...
Firstly,to answer DarkDog - My stand-alone DVD player did not come with any disks at all - typical upgrade of original machine by manufacturer, but no disks to play on it?! But the manual that came with the player tells me that it is CD+G compatible.
As for my TEAC drive being able to read CD+G disks? That I do not know... I have so far only downloaded tracks from P2P sites, which come in zipped form. I have been able to open these and play them on my PC using Power CDG to MPG Converter software and these tracks play with the lyrics onscreen.
Secondly, I note that cardandtom mentions 'plextor' - what is 'plextor'?? Forgive my ignorance?! How do I tell if my TEAC reads cdg tracks? When I download the tracks from P2P sites and open the zips, they open with a *.cdg extension - should I burn this extension to disk to find if my drive reads them?
I also have a LG DVD-ROM DRD8120B drive installed - will this read CD+G disks??
Advice appreciated again, folks!
:hdspin:
captain casein Sep 29, 2004, 02:08 PM Just check you have ticked the cd+g box where you add the tracks otherwise you will get just audio
vinniedub Sep 29, 2004, 06:03 PM you're probably using a version of cdrwin which has a keygen or some other unlock code. If this is the case d/l a kosher version from goldenhawk. You will be limited in what you can do, but at least you will know if your setup is capable (which I suspect it is) btw Plextor is the choice of burners for us guys and gals
Holler Sep 29, 2004, 07:38 PM Teac -> CD-W54E
Manufacturer Teac
Model CD-W54E
Supported Writing Method: [DAO/SAO] [RAW SAO] [RAW SAO+SUB] [DAO + 96]
Your drive does support CD+G for a burn. Follow the help pages at the playground to burn your CD+G disk with Nero, or use one of the non-compatible techniques using Clone CD or Alcohol 120%.
In most cases, a TEAC burner will not burn CD+G with CDRwin.
:)
alba Sep 30, 2004, 08:28 PM Thanks Holler for the pointer to the Playground...
What I can't understand is why can I not simply burn a cdg file straight to disk and it play straight away? After all, this is how the file appears on a CD+G disk, does it not??
:hdspin: :round:
vinniedub Oct 01, 2004, 12:46 PM No, it's part of the audio track, not all players/readers/writers can see it or make use of it though
Holler Oct 01, 2004, 01:22 PM Ok... *cracks fingers
A CD+G disk looks like any other regular audio CD when viewed with Explorer. As one of the others mentioned earlier, the graphics are written into the subchannel data and cannot be viewed with Windows.
There are 3 types of burner: ones that can read and write individual tracks with CDRwin (compatible), ones that can backup full CD+G disks with an imaging program (non-compatible), and those that cannot read or write CD+G disks at all (non DAO-96 drives).
All Plextors, a few sony's, most yamaha and some HP burners are compatible with CDRwin. These drives have the hardware to de- and re- interleave graphics from CD+G disks and it all can be done with just CDRwin.
75% of the drives on the market today are considered non-compatible (LG, BenQ, MSI, most LiteOn) along with your TEAC. They lack the hardware to interleave graphics, however, can read and write as a complete image (with Clone CD, Disc Juggler, Alcohol and others). AudioGrabber is freeware and can read individual tracks from these drives (BIG plus). The same can be done with CDRwin, an imaging program and a virtual drive. There is no software on the market today that can directly burn individual tracks with these drives. What you must do is use a Cue Sheet to create an image that imaging programs can burn. Non-compatible techniques work real with these drives.
The easiest way to check your disk using your PC is by using LD Player from Takabin (again freeware). Links and setup instructions are in the playground help pages.
BTW... it must say explictly in your DVD drive's manual that it supports reading "CD+G" in order for it to read and display the graphics properly. Most say "Karaoke" is supported meaning VCD or DVD video tracks.
I hope this helps clear up a few loose ends.

Thanks again Holler - from your remarks above, I have been able to create a cue sheet using MP3+G program, but cannot burn this cue sheet using Nero v6 for some reason. Whenever I try to burn the cue sheet I get an error message telling me that "a error occurred while trying to load the cue sheet file'C:\My Shared Folder\Karaoke zipped\CD+G Test Disk 1.cue'. (Line 2)" and Nero will not burn anything after this message.
Having tried to burn the cue sheet using Golden Hawk, I create a CD of cda tracks, which will play in LDPlayer without lyrics?
I guess my burner is not compatible, as I seem to be following all leads and help given...
As for my DVD/Karaoke player - it does state in the manual that the Acoustic Sounds DVD600K model does indeed play CD+G disks.
Any further help or advice would be appreciated, though it looks as if I'm going to have to go out and buy myself a couple of CD+G disks and crank them up with the kids?! ;-)
Holler Oct 02, 2004, 02:58 AM Sure...
Update your Nero to the latest version 6. Have your Ser No handy when you upgrade. Then try another burn. BTW... do not move, rename, transfer or delete any of your bin files until you are finished burning.
If it is not sucessful, open your cue sheet with note pad and copy / paste the information from the first few tracks in your next post.
:)
alba Oct 02, 2004, 11:04 AM Thanks Holler! The update of Nero did the trick... I was able to successfully create a disk that would play music and lyrics from the cue sheet that I had created using MP3+G program.
As the disk is a compilation made from downloaded tracks via P2P sites, I was able to play six out of seven tracks (before I turned DVD player off) and the sixth track lyrics was distorted - pixelated - but as it is my own compilation on a CD-RW disk, I am not too upset by it. I can always rewrite the disk again omitting this track!
Thanks again to everyone who helped - I look forward to chatting again soon and would appreciate it if anyone could advise me of best place to download (preferably free) CD+G tracks from for me to create my own compilation disks?
:bouncing: :wavey:
vinniedub Oct 03, 2004, 02:31 PM turn the burn speed down to avoid scrambled graphics p. s. Holler is STILL the MAN :)
shazzmuzik Oct 03, 2004, 10:18 PM Dear Alba.....
You mentioned in your original Post that you are trying to create diks to play in an Acoustic Sounds DVD600K karaoke DVD player.....
That is probably your problem......Does this player state that it will play "CD+G" disks?
OK...I checked for you.....your Teac CDRW is compatible with CDRWin 3.9f.......
ZIP to BIN.....is the right format.....BUT.....check at the top of the window when you are 'adding' your tracks to burn them......MAKE SURE that the CD+G is ticked...NOT...AUDIO.....that very well could be, why you are only getting audio on your new disks.....
Try that.....& see how you go.......hope this helps......
If there is anything else you need to know....please ask here, or email me....
Bye for now :wavey: ..............................Shazza

alba Oct 05, 2004, 07:59 PM Hi Folks!
I have now updated my TEAC drive to a ARTEC VOM-12E48X 12X DVD RW DUAL DRIVE - Supported format:
DVD Video, DVD-5, DVD-9, DVD-10, DVD-18, DVD+RW 4.7GB, DVD+R 4.7GB, DVD-RW 4.7GB (closed session),
DVD-R (4.7GB), DVD Data and Video, CD-DA, CD-ROM XA (m1, m2f1/m2f2), CD-R, CD-RW, Bootable CD,
Photo CD (single & multi-session), Video CD, Super Video CD, CD-Extra, Mixed-mode CD, CD-Text, CD-Graphics and am now playing around with creating DVD's! Wish me luck?! :round:
I have taken on board the comments about reducing the copy/write speed for reducing the scrambling of my lyrics and look forward to creating my own (trouble-free) compilation disks in the future!
Can anyone point me in the right direction to download (hopefully, free) CD+G tracks, with which to compile my own disks from? I'd much appreciate the pointer!!!
gymrat2004 Nov 17, 2004, 09:41 PM I have a couple hardware/software questions....Will the Plextor Premium CD-ROM Drive work for burning cd+gs and is a cd+g disc like a normal dvd disc? Thanks
modo Nov 18, 2004, 08:03 PM <edit>
Already been said very well by Holler :)
vinniedub Nov 18, 2004, 10:16 PM it's nothing like a DVD, it's very like a CD
