I am having problems backing-up 'The Family Man' using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. I have the latest versions of both programs and have burnt dozens of movies with them. Both programs refuse to copy the 01_04.vob file of this Movie, which is around the point of the layer switch. The DVD does not have any scratches and plays just fine in my DVD Player.
I have tried copying on 2 different PC's, one is ME with a Lite-On DVD Burner and an older copy of Shrink, the other is XP with a SONY DRU-700A and up to date copies of the software, exactly the same result on both machines.
When using DVD Decrypter , after 250 attempts to read the VTS 01_04 file it gives me this error message-
"Interpretation read (10) - sector : 2039844
Sense area : 70 0030 00 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 11 00 00 00 00 00
Interpretation: Uncovered Read Error
Abort Retry Ignore"
One thing that I did notice, if I use Windows Explorer to look at the DVD there is an extra VTS 01_04 file at the end, it is not in numerical order like the rest are, and it is only about 8,000kb whereas the other VTS 01_04 file is over 1,000,000kb. Could this be some form of copy protection?
Another thing that I just noticed, this DVD will play just fine on both my stand-alone DVD players, but it will not play in both my PC DVD Burners! It gets to around the section that is causing the burning problem and freezes. I have borrowed another copy from the local DVD Rental Store and got the same result. Both copies are Region 4, and both are in good condition. Is this some form of copy-protection that stops DVD's being read in PC based DVD Players?
