I have a moxtor hard drive in my PS2 running fine. But I want to remove the hard drive and want to use it as a drive on my pc. But my pc will not recognise it.

Is there anyway I can format it so it would work back on pc again?

Well the PS2 uses it's own file system and this isn't sompatible with Windows/Unix so you can use your HD however you will need to reformat it as FAT32 or NTFS for your OS to recognise it which mean that you will lose all current data.

Unless someone knows better.....?, haven't come accross a PC tool that allows you to read a PS2 file system...

If you do want to reformat as FAT32 or NTFS you need to plug it onto a free IDE cable and make sure your bios recognises it - usually setting jumpers to cable select or slave will do the trick.

In W2K use disk manager under admin tools to import the 'foreign' disk the r-click and reformat. Can't remember other OS's of top of my head...

Youd probably have to fdisk it first, formating won't do it.

yup - you will need to fdisk it first - so you need a floppy boot disk (easily made from Windows 98 - check the help). You may also need to change boot order in your BIOS so pc will boot of floppy first, before HD or CDROM.

Then you type fdisk from command prompt, delete the current partitions, then create a primary dos partition (c drive), and specify it's size then make it active. You can also have an extended partition that allows you to create logical devies on this extended partitoin eg: d,e,f, drives depending on size of HD.

Note that it's safer to remove your PCs current HD and just make the new HD the primary to do the above!

Then, you put back old hd and boot pc as normal - then you can format the HD from windows (or use format c: etc from dos).
