My NU dvdr/cdrw drive was working perfectly fine not too long ago. i had it hooked up with my other cdrw drive and i would use both of them. til one day the cdrw stopped working so i took it out, now the dvdr works but it wont read any regular cds.. only dvds work and that only works at half the speed.. even when i copy a cd it takes forever to copy.. i think my read speed is supposed to be 16x, the write speed is 8x and the rewrite speed is 4x.. but for some reason i can only burn at 4x or i get write errors.. im not sure what the problem is, i looked on the NU site for udated versions of their firmware but those didnt help either.. still have the same problems.. i am using windows xp with sp2 installed.. i am also using nero 6.6 and dvdshrink,(by the way i tried uninstalling all burning software and reinstall and still didnt work) i have 1gig ddr memory and a 2.2gighz processor... i shouldnt be having these problems since i recently upgraded to all of this.. tell me what i might be doing wrong.. thanks

My first suspicion is that you don't have DMA available or enabled.
If you have Nero, use the Nero Info Tool in the Nero Toolkit and check your system.
If you don't it's a free download.

I can't really see anything technically wrong by studying the Info Tool log.
DMA is enabled, however, you seem to have a lot of drives installed.
How many physical drives do you have?
Try not to use virtual drives as they can screw your system up.
Uninstall all the drives you don't need or use, and have just your NU DVDR/W as a Master on the 2nd controller.
Check in My Computer that it's the only drive listed (apart from your hard drive and floppy etc off course) and that it has the correct drive letter and try it on it's own.

What I think has happened is burning software and/or virtual drives have screwed up your settings or Registry.
There is a Registry hack you can try, but leave that as a last resort.
How many drives are listed in My Computer and in Device Manager?
Have only the NU unit physically installed and then try uninstalling all your optical drives (Remove all virtual drives too) including the NU and reboot.
Let Windows detect it on the reboot and install the relevant files.
Check Device Manager and make sure that it's listed with no errors and DMA is enabled.

Try disabling one of the drives (like the cdrw) through device manager. This returned functionality to my dvd rw. Still working on a solution that will allow me to use both.
