You didn't find drivers because you don't need any.
Window's supports all optical drives.
You don't need any add-on drivers whatsoever.
Is the drive listed in My Computer and in Device Manager correctly with no errors reported?

You still haven't answered my question?
Again, is the drive listed in My Computer and in Device Manager correctly with no errors reported?

How long has it been doing this for and has anything changed since it started?
Has it ever worked in that computer or has anything been installed recently?
What happens when you put a CDR in? Do you get an error message or what?

I tried to play a cd on my computer (Windows XP) and discovered that I can no longer access the drive. The drive does not display from My Computer and the device status shows as:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39).
Can anyone suggest how to fix this. BTW, I'm pretty much a novice.
Thanks.

DIVA, you should start your own post as you will get more replies.
Had you done a search here, you would have found the solution to your problem.
You don't state what operating system it is, so I'm assuming it's XP.
1.Go to Start, Run and type in regedit then click OK.
2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.
7. Restart your computer.
Make sure you backup your important files, and create a restore point beforehand.
