Hello,
I keep getting a message "Fixation Error" whan I try to burn CD's
I have cleaned the lense and I have set the DMA/PIO settings correctly.
I have tried burning with a CDR & CDRW and, it will only burn to the CDRW and at that only a specific type of CDRW as I have tried two differrent makes and only one will copy.
The recorder is 2 years old and was fine until recently.
I have tried a simulation on a CDR and it just gives the mentioned error. It will do a simulation on a CDRW but only a certain type.
I have XP Pro installed and I have disabled the XP burning facility so as not to cause any conflict.
It sometimes shows a message that the CDRW is not a CDRW when it is.
I am using Nero 6
Could this be a problem with the drive ?
Thanks
Androo

What version of Nero is it, 6.??
Uninstall Nero completely using the Clean Tool (http://www.nero.com/us/631940828445001.html), then install the very latest version.
Use the above tool as it completely removes every trace of the old program.
If the problem occurs again, check for a firmware upgrade and/or another program.
It could very well be the drive/laser is dying, but you will have to eliminate all the other possibilities.

Ok,
I'll try what you say and post back tomorrow.
My Nero is 6.3.0.0.
Thanks

Hi,
I've tried all that you said reinstalling and using the clean tool etc...
I've even tried a new program but it's still the same.
The only thing I have'nt tried is a firmware update as I cannot find anything suitable for my model.
Are there any online programs that can check whether my drive or lense is dying.
I've seen one on the Sony page but it's only for USA citizens, and I live in Spain Europe.
Thanks anyway
Andrew
Ive just noticed that when I run the Nero Info Tool and I go to the Tab ASPI on both my CDRW & my CDRom it says on both of them that, Nero ASPI is installed and working properly and that the System ASPI is not installed on any of the two drives.
Could this be a problem ? and if so, where can I obtain the System ASPI ?
Also when I load the Info Tool at the end of loading, my CDRom light comes on as if reading and the tray ejects.

You don't really need a System Aspi, and Nero installs it's own, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Anyway,
A fixation error means that the laser doesn't have the ability to close the session anymore and is trying to calibrate itself, but cannot.
The usual solution is to try different brands of media, and if that doesn't work, see about having the drive itself checked or replaced.
If you have another PC you can try it on, that would be a great help.

Hi again,
I've tried different CDR media and this time I am told "Could not perform End Track"
By the way, the CDRW Disc problem was not just on my machine as I tried it on a friends and they got the same message as mine "No medium in tray" So in that case, it was the Disc.
I think I have run out of options, as your suggestion of getting the drive checked or replaced these days could cost more than a new recorder.
I think I'll wait and see what Father Christmas brings me ;)
Many thanks for your help
Regards
Andrew
