View Full Version : Downloading sounded so easy...

Hello. i'm totally confused. let me start by admitting that i'm a total novice on computers. OK.
i downloaded a .rar file with emule of command & conquer generals + zero hour. I opened it with winrar, and got 2 .iso files (cd1 & cd2) and two .bin files (one for cd1 , one for cd2). If you think i know what these file names mean, you're wrong. Anyhow, i used alcohol 120% (everyone seems to talk about it, so i downloaded it) to burn the .iso of cd1 onto a cd, same with cd2. i wanted to put the .bin files onto the respectiive cds but alcohol only let me browse for one file to burn, not two at once. I then took the cd's out of the RW drive, put them into the cd-rom drive, and it all looked fine. It asked me if i wanted to install the game, etc. All like normal. Problem is half way through the installation, it tells me 'to insert the correct disk'. Is that because the .bin file isn't there? if so, can i just add it to the disk with the .iso file, or do i have to burn them both together in the first place?

Do i even need to make these cd's if i want to play the downloaded game on the same computer?

Sorry. this thread is long and tedious. Even i'm bored by it, and i'm the one who's writing it- but anyhow, any help would be REALLY appreciated. I've waited 4 days for this to download and i'll be damned if i just throw it into the recycle bin.

OK, i've discovered that the .bin files are actually the images of 'Zero hour', which i've burned and then installed from the newly burned CD. Again- all good until i try and play it, when it tells me that i've got to put the correct cd -rom in. Am i just using the wrong disks?

For the problem with Zero Hour complaining about the wrong CD when you try and play it, try getting a NO-CD crack for it. As far as C&C Generals goes, it seems like a protection issue, but I'm not too sure. You could try mounting the image onto a virtual drive with Alcohol's, or maybe something else like Daemon, they might have some kind of emulation on them to get around the protection. Then again, it could just be that whoever made the image didn't do it properly.

I would hope this has been resolved by now, sorry the response is so late- i don't check these boards very often.

In case anyone else has this problem: -

bin or iso images do not contain the info needed to emulate any of the copy protections (that is why clonecd or alcohol120 images etc are used for these "cloned" games)

BUT most release groups will have added a directory to these game cds either called "crack" or the name of the release group and inside this dir is a cracked exe to play the game either "no-cd" or "backup-cd", just replace the games normal exe in the installation directory.
