I recently acquired a notebook computer. It is extremely generic. The sound card is an Ad Lib Compatible OPL2 and it says there are no conflicts in the device manager. I have Windows 98SE running on it now. It originally came with Win95, but the sound was not working running it either. The hard drive was on its last leg, so we replaced it and installed 98SE, but still no sound. When opening the multimedia icon inside the control panel, the audio device tab is greyed out. There are also no volume controls when you go to "start" "programs" "accessories" entertainment" and volume controls. I don't know how to test to see whether the sound card is even working. There are volume controls on the keyboard, but they don't seem to do anything. I was thinking maybe it was the driver, but I've been looking for a driver now for several weeks. Honestly, I'm just bummed out. I was going to give this notebook to my 8 year old daughter for Christmas, but without the sound, it's no good to her either! Can someone please help???
