i have a model number 39001, when i open the system i notice it's a gh-022 board and the bios it says: d 110 050 s48
b 10 070

i'm unclear if this is a version 7 or 8.

i'm pretty sure you have a version 7.

"V8 - Only released in the japanese market. The model # can be SCPH-39000 or SCPH-39006 (GH-022 BIOS 090). "

"V7 - If your model# is SCPH-39000, 39001, 39002, 39003, 39004 or 37000 you have a V7 PS2 main board."

well this is why i'm stump b/c my ps2 board id is gh-022, and according to you then i have a v8. but my bios have a b 10 070.

When you turn your ps2 on it should say VERSION right there on the screen. What does it say?
