Whenever I try to burn a CD, it doesn't work because it has a power calibration error. Is that a hardware problem? Do i have to buy a new burner?

CDGMAN Dec 10, 2004, 04:55 AM Hi POWER CALIBRATION ERRORS ARE CAUSED MOSTLY BY POOR MEDIA. (CHEAP BRANDED CD'S IE. PROMEDIA) - TRY USING A DIFFERENT BRAND (COMPUSA, TDK'S, MEMOREX, SONY) ARE THE BEST BET; DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON CHEAP DISKS - YOULL JUST WASTE THEM. If everything is to no avail, then maybe a firmware upgrade will do the trick. Have a look at http://www.cdfreaks.com/drive/firmware/574 :gabby: Hope this helps.danny little animal Dec 12, 2004, 07:41 PM Also worth mentioning is the fact that power calibration errors will happen when your power supply is pushed to its limit, so try unplugging any extra devices such as usb stuff or extra hard drives and try that. Also a 'wobbly' connector, maybe with a broken wire inside will cause Nero to assume a power calibration error, so try a different connector off your power supply. Hope that helps CDGMAN Dec 13, 2004, 03:53 PM oop's and that to lol  tim081945 Dec 13, 2004, 05:38 PM I posted this against another query. This is from a Pioneer website, for DVD media you can also read CD media. ======================================= A power calibration error is caused by the inability of a DVD-RW drive to use a DVD-R or DVD-RW disk. DVD-R and DVD-RW disks themselves have information written on them, within this Media ID code there is information that the drive uses to calibrate itself to the disk, when a drive first starts to write to a disk it will burn a small amount of data to a calibration area on the disc, using the calibration information in the Media ID code, and then try to read back the data that it has written. If it cannot be read, then disk will be ejected and fail with a power calibration error. A power calibration error is normally caused by problems with the media. Should you be experiencing problems with your drive or the media, we recommend that a disk from a good quality manufacturer be used to test it. ============================= I think the solution is to buy good quality , known brand media. |
