I've got a PHILIPS Cdrw 4816/20. It supports Ultra DMA 2 - ATA 33, but windows xp sets it on Multi-Word DMA 2 (16.6Mb, NO CRC Checking, NO flowcontrol) which i think is the cause of slow readings and destroyed cds.

Im using nVidia Nforce2 drivers 5.10 (MSI k7n2delta-l) with the special SW IDE driver, im going to try without it to see whether it works better or not.

Any suggestions ?

I've just found out that my IDE cdrom cable was having problems, i've changed it and the xp freezes when i insert a cd are gone. Now the only problem remains that of the transfer mode, i think that due to frecvent errors from the ide cable windows has reverted to a slower but more flautfree mode than DMA mode -2 33, which is multi-word dma...the problem now is that i dont know how to revert to dma 33, every time i try to set it from device manager, after restart windows xp wont start, and i certainly dont wanna reinstall it. I think i've seen a method from the net, something that has to do with the regitry..any ideas ?
