I have 2 new Dell OptiPlex GX270's that I am having problems with the dvdrom after installing XP SP2. It will not read any of my burned cd's only cd's created from manufacturers. The drive is a Hitachi HL-DT-ST DVD-Rom GDR8082N.
When I put in a burned cd of office, it takes about 6 seconds for it to show that it is the office cd, but when I click on it nothing happens. I can explore the CD, but it will not start the setup automatically or manually. The light is on on the drive. I have uninstalled the drive and reinstalled. Same problem. I have had this happen on 3 setups with SP2......

If I uninstall SP2, the drive starts working again????

I cannot find anything on any groups. Please help - I am so sick of SP2 problems:tdown:.

Thank You,
Dalbey

yeah it's a real pain. You have to update your drive firmware so that it's compatable from the manufacturers site.
