Hi, I've got the following DVD writer/ CD writer "HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4083B"
I have looked everywhere and cannot find the speed. Can anyone help please

As far as I can tell, it's a dual layer 8X DVD burner. I found a site with specs, but it seems to be in German. The information is towards the bottom of the page.

Yes it does appear to be "±R/ ±RW 8-fach max. Double-Layer"

Is there such a thing as double-layer DVD disks and if so do they hold twice the amount as a normal DVD disk, and where would I get them from

Yes, there are special dual layer DVDs which can hold up to 8.5 GB.
