Is it possible to prevent a program from using all the resources of your pc so that you can maybe have another program running or your bandwith won't be effected by changing settings or is it just about processor and ram? TMPGEnc is just sucking the live out of my pc, I can't even d/l as it effect that also.

There are a few things that can control computer speed from a hardware perspective. Processor speed, amount of RAM, and hard drive spin rate. Throw in hard drive size, hard drive free space, and degree of hard drive fragmentation. Viruses & spyware can prohibit downloading ability.

What are your computer's specs? If you have XP look here:

I've never known TMPGEnc to be a resource hog, but I guess it depends on the size of the video files you're working on. I use MemTurbo, to gather unused RAM, and it works pretty well for me.

You can try lowering the Priority. Launch TMPGEnc then press Ctrl+Alt+Del and click on the Processes tab. Right click on TMPGEnc and click on Set Priority. Change it to BelowNormal or Low and see if that helps.
