I was playing a game when I accidentally hit the power button with my foot (I have a surge protector with a big on/off button). When I turned on the computer it said something had happened; it made me load from "profile one". When I turned on the computer everything seemed normal, except when I put in a cd. It wont load cd's anymore. I went to My Computer to see if I could explore the cd drives. However, when I go to my computer it only shows 3 1/2 inch floppy drive in Devices with Removable Storage. I then went to Control Panel and clicked Add Hardware. When I searched for devices currently on my computer it shows the two drives, but it says " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" for both of them.

Any ideas?

Have you tried to go into Device Manager, and update the drivers for these drives? If this doesn't work, Shut down your PC, open up your box, and unplug/replug your power leads, and IDE cables going to your CD drives. Turn PC back on. See if that helps. I've had similar experiences with CD drives after power surges etc., and if the drives weren't damaged, this worked for me.

I also found this at Microsoft.com:
