my laptop has an s-video socket but not sure what its for ,
am i right in thinking i can get an s-video / scart so i can plug the scart into my vhs video recorder and play something and use the s-video to capture ?

basicaly i have found this http://www.svideo.com/svideoscart.html

if i buy that can i connect the scart to the video recorder then connect the yellow svideo socket to laptop then conect the 3.5 headphone jack into my mic siocket then ill have colour video and sound ?
is that right ?

Probably not. Chances are the S-Video is an output to bring the laptop display to a TV. What model is your laptop? Have you looked in the manual to see if this is an input or output?
