Hi
I have a hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4240n combo drive in an ibm r40 laptop, with os xp home.
Now the problem is, this drive is not multisystem, and I use dvd discs from various regions
I cannot brake it up. Not with Region Free, not with any media program. I even tried to install an imb update for InterVideo Windvd, but could not mannage to install it properly.
Is there anything else I can do, or am I doomed to be stuck with only one region?
Thanks so much
h

I found this troubleshooting page from IBM:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4YRPZ7

This was from an online forum. They haven't specifically mentioned your IBM model:

The "old" DVD drives in our beloved IBM TP 770s and 600s were RPC1 type encoded and
inherently region free as shipped from the factory, i.e. the region was set by
the software.

The new DVD drives are RPC2 types and are encoded in the hardware, hence the
difficulty in making them region free as the region selection is now
"remembered" by the drive itself and you run into the problem of the drive
becoming "locked" in the last region selected after you've used your 5 allowed changes.

I hope this info helps!
