I've been burning RitekG05 DVD-R at 8x and I found that 5-10 out of every 100 turns out to be coasters (write errors). When I look at the bottom (purple side), I see quite a few small blob of darker areas which signals me is this dye inferior? I purchased Verbatim 8x DVD-R (produced by MCC 02RG20) and it didn't produce coasters and I don't see any darker areas on the dye side. The dye is more to the dark blue side than purple. The price is only a little higher than RitekG05, so I'm changing to Verbatim 8x. I never had this problem with RitekG04 and when I burn the RitekG05 at 4x, I don't produce coasters. I still like Ritek however but if Verbatim is affordable enough I'll prefer to buy Verbatim. I have a Pioneer DVR-108 with firmware 1.18.

The creme of the crop dvd-r are Tayio Yuden. YOu can buy a 100 pack at rima.com for about $53 shipped. These are best of the best. Also, if you don't mind dvd+r, go to bestbuy this week. They have TDK dvd+r which are rebranded Tayio Yuden 50 packs for $19.99, but look for the ones that are made in Japan. they most likely will have a sticker covering the "made in Taiwan" print. These are top notch Tayio Yuden's. The ones made in Taiwan are not. Good luck
