I hope someone can help me with this cause it's really annoying.

I formatted last week, everything was fine. But today I notice that when I go to My computer, neither of my DVD drives are showing up. Just the hard drives.

When I restart they all show up on the boot up screen, but when I check...again nothing.

Yesterday a friend set up my xbox to play online, so I hade put in a new network card. I was wondering if there was some clash of IRQs because in Device Manager my DVD drives have yellow question marks by em. I unplugged the card and restarted but it was still the same.

I even uninstalled the drives in Device Manager and then rebooted, allowing XP to find the drives again - which it did - but it was still the same.

I can see me damaging it soon! Hope someone can help!

Cheers!

Always figure it was the last software or hardware change made. Have you tried using System Restore, or Last Known Good Configuration to try and reset your PC? Why did you need to install a new network card? Was there an existing card which wasn't working? Does your motherboard have an onboard network adapter? If so, that may be causing a conflict.

More information is needed.

Are they present in the bios?

Thanks for the replies....

Maddhatter62.....Yes I tried a system restore but it was still the same. I added a second card because I had a cable modem running into my 1st one, and I needed to run my xbox through a network card so I added one. My motherboard does not have an on board adapter. Hmmm...very odd!

Handyguy.....yes indeed, the drives are showing up in the bios.

Thanks again fellas.

try powering down, opening the case, unplugging both drives and then restart..

make sure the drives are no longer present in the bios and the device manager.

power down and plug them back in one at a time between restarts, see if windows re detects them

Okay guys, things are back to normal now after a format.

Shortly after posting these messages my PC stopped booting up, Ikept getting amessage during start up saying NTLDR IS MISSING. It wouldn't let me get any further.

I'd had enough and did a format. For the time being things seem okay!

Cheers all!

Okay my problem has returned!

Seems to be after I played Xbox online just now, I was on it earlier and it was fine though!?

I did a system roll back to yesterday (when it was fine) but it didn't work.

I thought that maybe even if the drives ain't showing up in My Computer, they may still be active, but when I started up DVD Decrypter it says No Writers Found.

Are the little yellow (!)'s back in your Device Manager?

Your BIOS detects them but Windows does not? Are they hooked up as Master/Slave or as Cable Select?

Have you used a program like Tweak UI to restrict drive letter assignments?

Also, go into your Devise Manager and look at your "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and look at the secondary IDE channel. If this all started when you installed a new NIC I would bet that Windoze robbed your IDE controller of some critical resources.

Okay...the case gets weirder!

Thanks for the post AcidBath....I tried to answer your questions....

I checked Device Manager and the little yellow marks were by 'Other Devices', in the CD drives there were none listed.

I have my IDE devices set up like this....

IDE Channel 1 - Master - Hard Drive
IDE Channel 2 - Master - CD Drive
IDE Channel 2 - Slave - CD Drive

Bios detects them but Windows does not.

I restarted to check the bios for my IDE settings - to see if it was detecting my drives and whne the PC restarted my CD drives showed up again!

I'm gonna get a few discs done now cause I need to get them out of the way, I'm sure either with my next restart or when I play xbox live gain things will go wrong!

Am I going mad?!!

Oh, I have never used or heard of Tweak UI...am I misssing something?

I would bet on the other devices being IDE controllers. Do you have a motherboard/chipset drivers CD?

Thanks once again for the help people. I did another roll back, this time to before I installed Discjuggler .v4.10.1140 and it hasn't happened since.

I'm wondering if there are any known issues / probs involving this software and certain hardware?

Thanks!
