As I wait anxiously for my Plextor PX-716A and CAVS 202G I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. What is the BEST software to make back-up copies of BOTH Super CDGs (commercial and self-compiled) and also regular CDGs? Thanks in advance for your help.

I've only copied my self-compiled SCDGs, and used Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6. I tried Nero 6, but got some very strange errors. As for copying commercial SCDGs, check out this forum post from Faster:

"I used Magic ISO [URL=http://www.magiciso.com/] create ISO image to my hard drive. Magic ISO can then burn the image to DVD. I only had the "Try Me" version, and it limits burns to 300 mb, so I used Roxio EZ DVD Creator to burn the image to DVD. Put the new disk in my CAVS DVD202 and it plays just like the original. I've made backups of all my other Super CDG's and they work fine."

Good luck!

I understand that Roxio Easy Creator 7 is supposed to come with the Plextor. Do you think that will work okay? From what I've read on this site clonecd should be good for burning the cdgs, do you agree? As you can tell I'm a true beginner. Thanks so much for answering.

That should work fine as well. I think it's Easy Media Creator 7. You should also receive PlexTools, on the same disk as EMC7. It's a burning software toolset which was made specifically for Plextor drives. Once you've loaded it, go to www.plextools.com to update your version. I don't know if it will work with commercial SCDGs, but I would think it would work fine with the self-compiled SCDGs.

CloneCD should work fine for the CDGs. Actually, I think Plextools will work too.

PlexTools definitely works for copying CDGs (I just tried it). Make sure to choose CD/DVD copy, and then on the next screen click on Preferences, and then check the box Include CD+G.

Thank you again Maddhatter62,
As a true newcomer to all this I am pretty overwhelmed at all the choices and especially the lingo all you guys use. When my equipment does come in I just hope I am successful backing up my discs. Is there any certain brand of disc that you feel is superior? I reallly appreciate your help and any suggestions about any of the above from any of the other knowledgable people here. Thanks, Irish-Lass

You're welcome. These are great forums, with quite a few knowledgeable people.

Blank CD-Rs and DVDs come in varying qualities. If money is no object...Taiyo Yuden or Mitsui are top of the line in my opinion. I use those if I find a deal. If not, I use a lot of Ritek/Ridata. If you're shopping around Best Buy, Office Max, etc., and find Ritek/Ridata, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Verbatim, or some other name brand on sale, check the packaging to see where they were manufactured. Japan is excellent, Taiwan is OK. Here's a good online site:
http://www.supermediastore.com/

Once you make a purchase, test your blank CDs with:
http://cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/cdridentifier.cfm

Test your blank DVDs with: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

You can do a Google search with the information from these tests to see what others think about your particular blank CD & DVD brand/model.
