Pls. bear w/this brand new poster child!! 2 very Basic ??'s....

1) want to convert home VHS's to DVD......don't have a combo VHS/DVD recorder to accomplish this but can use that device at work if all else fails....believe I have the proper drives/cards/cables on home PC to attach VCR to PC....what software is needed...Nero?(I have)...another sotware that is better?

2) if/when I accomplish the conversion....what about editing the DVD....ultimate goal is creating a "Memories" DVD for my daughter's graduation and I will want to "overlay" audio clips

You need some sort of recording prog...I'm not sure Nero has that function but I may be wrong. A good one is WinDVR. However, if you're using Windows, it has a prog called Movie Maker which will allow you to record...however, I can't remember if it will record in DVD res. At any rate, hook your VCR up to your PC, record whatever you want, do your editing with a prog such as Ulead VideoStudio 8, Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7, Adobe Premiere etc., convert to DVD format with a prog such as the two Uleads which I mentioned and then burn. However...VHS tape has a much lower res than DVD so don't expect DVD quality videos. Good luck.
