Hi

I've been backing up Xbox games for ages now.

But recently i've had to recover my whole PC because of a corrupt file and now i can't get an IP Address from my Xbox.

You see, it was my old next door neighbour who set everything up for me but i can't remember excatly what he done.

I remember him changing something on the Network connections and everytime i switched my Xbox on ( With an Ethernet Cable connected ) the IP Address would automaticly be there.
and everytime i switched my Xbox off i would always get a message at the bottom of my PC screen saying " Local Area Connection. A Network Cable is Unplugged.

Now ( Since i Recovered my PC) everytime i switch on my Xbox the IP Address says 0.0.0.0.0 and everytime i switch it off i no longer get the " local Area Connection" message.

Can anyone tell me what to do to sort this out? it's driving me mad!!

You probably need to reconfigure your tcp/ip settings in your computer. Go into your xbox dashboard settings and get the following information, IP address, gateway and DNS numbers. Then go to your pc and go into your local area connection, then internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties. For the IP address put in the same number that you got from the xbox for the gateway, for the gateway, put the same number as well. Then put in the DNS numbers that you got from your xbox as well. Make sure the subnet mask matches too.

That should get you back, unless your friend it up a little differently.

Hope this Helps

Thanks for the help.

I've done what you said ( written ip, gateway, DNS down)
I've then gone to my connections and internet protocol properties entered the IP Address and Gateway address ok but it won't let me enter DNS values which is 0.0.0.0 on my Xbox(does this sound right). It say i must enter a number between 1 & 223.

My Xbox will allow me to alter my DNS but i'm not sure what to do?

Thanks

What dashboard are you using on your xbox? If your xbox's dns is set to 0.0.0.0 for both numbers, just try not putting any numbers in for the dns on your pc and see what happens, just leave them blank.

is your xbox connected directly to the computer with the cable or to a router that is connected to the pc? if its direct then its crossover and if router then its cat5, depending on which way it is totally diff setup

You can also edit the evox.ini file to manually put the ip address for your xbox.

Right click on your local area connection(ethernet card) and go to properties left click on Internet Protocol and the properties check box Use following IP adrees and enter 192.168.0.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 then hit ok. Power up xbox and go to System Management in evox then System Settings use static IP Yes and enter IP as 192.168.0.2 this should now work so save and exit.
