I'm looking to build my own PC. i think I may get this motherbaord:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1279023&Sku=MCM-7VT600-2800A

However, according to the provided picture, I don't see a VGA connection on the motherboard. Can a monitor be connected some other way or do I definitely need some sort of video card?

You can connect to a TV with an s-video cable and use it as a monitor, but then again, you need a video card with an s-video out port or a port already integrated in the motherboard.

If you want to connect a monitor you need a video card either AGP or PCI. Which can include a vga, dvi or both ports. DVI it's only for AGP cards I guess, not sure.

buscuitboy - you will need a graphics card for this type of setup.
Honestly though steer clear of integrated graphics anyway since they ALL suck to a greater or lesser degree. Spring for a few bucks and buy the most expensive graphics card you can afford.
Also, very very important: NEVER BUY FROM TIGER DIRECT
and to refine that point: NEVER BUY FROM TIGER DIRECT AND EXPECT A REBATE

Basically Tiger sucks. You may get lucky and everything go OK, but why risk it? As far as rebates they are known rebate scammers. Your odds of getting your rebate back are MAYBE 50/50.... if your lucky.

Buy from NewEgg (http://www.newegg.com). Their prices will be the same or better than Tiger without screwing with rebates. Plus they are actually a reliable company.

Good luck!

I can't comment on Tiger Direct as I've never had dealings with them.

As far as the motherboard is concerned, I would never buy anything with a VIA chipset.

They would have to write the worst drivers, and the only good thing about them is they quickly release driver updates to fix prior monumental stuff-ups.

Their performance is mediocre at best.

The best chipset by far for an AMD is an nForce, and preferably an nForce 4. Excellent performance, no other chipset comes close.

A couple of things I would make sure the motherboard you buy features are dual-channel ddr capable, plenty of USB 2.0 ports and at least one or two firewire as well as built in ethernet.

These features are pretty standard these days.
