My PS2 drive isn't spinning anymore and would like to replace the whole drive but it looks like a used one would be about $59 plus shipping from an online stores and have looked on Ebay without finding any.

I wonder has anyone used just a regular DVD drive? I know it probably wouldn't fit in the case but say externally mounted.

To pay about $80 on a used drive for a two year old PS2 just doesn't make sense to me so looking for another option. Have found DVD drive motors for $14 plus shipping but would like to replace the whole drive.

With DVD drives so cheap now would think someone would have found a way to incorporate it into the PS2. PS2's seemed plagued by drive and laser troubles so replacing it with a reliable cheap computer drive for $29 or less would be a nice option.

Hello!

I like your idea about using a PC DVD Drive in a PS2 console. I just wondered if it worked or not. There could be a way by using USB, as they have just invented USB Extreme or something similar to HD Advance for Hard Drives. You should contact the manufacturer of USB Extreme and see if they can make something. This would be the best invention yet.

I could sell you a drive if you want one. Tell me which version console you have, and I'll see what I can do for you. I will not provide lasers with the drive though, so you will have to use your own laser. Email me at:

I seldom check this site, so that's why I have provided my email add.

Thanks!

Picked up a used drive on ebay although it was expensive.

Now my son has a PS2 with laser problems.

I am a bit of an inventor but not technoligically savy enough to develop such a thing.

Would think compatibility with disks would also be problem of the past if one could use a computer drive.

Anyway thanks for the offer. :round:
